The second quantum revolution promises to disrupt many major sectors and create a new multi-billion dollar sector over the next few years. However, the quantum effects that these technologies leverage are often counterintuitive, making it challenging for many to understand how quantum technologies will actually affect people’s lives and society and create new opportunities.
University of Maryland’s Vice President for Research, Dr. Laurie Locascio, will host Nobel Laureate Dr. Bill Phillips, for a virtual fireside chat to help make quantum more accessible for people who might not have a background in physics. Dr. Phillips is a renowned science communicator in addition to being a leading scientist, and currently serves as a NIST Fellow and a University of Maryland Distinguished University Professor. Drs. Locascio and Phillips will discuss his Nobel journey, provide a basic introduction to quantum physics, and answer burning questions about the promise of emerging quantum technologies.
